On October 18, 2023, in the Western District of Missouri, Niche Taylor pled guilty to one count of theft of government money related to false and fraudulent representations concerning her employment status to the Social Security Administration (SSA). She fraudulently collected monthly Social Security Disability Insurance payments and benefits for her children for her own financial use and personal gain.
In October 2009, Taylor applied for Disability Insurance Benefits (DIB). Based in part on her representations that her disability prevented her from working, SSA awarded her benefits. Her children were awarded children’s auxiliary benefits shortly thereafter. Taylor was informed she was under a continuing obligation to quickly notify SSA if she returned to work. In addition to Taylor’s late reporting of employment with five different companies, as well as underreporting of her employment with another company, Taylor failed to report or disclose to SSA her employment with the United States Internal Revenue Service from October 31, 2016, through at least December 31, 2017.
As a result of Taylor’s consistent concealment and underreporting of her employment, she and her children received approximately $53,691 in both DIB and associated children’s auxiliary benefits, to which they were not entitled.
